Can a black walnut tree be bonsai’d? I’ve heard from one source that they don’t make good bonsai on a ccount of a long, deep-running tap root. But if it can be done, do you have any tips for success?

    Bonsai Soil

i love bonsai i made one my self and it looks great

    thx for the info

  • Bonsai Pots

    Fast draining, gritty soil.

Usually a mix of Bark chips and a gravel like substance and some other stuff that varies depending on the type of tree you want.

but, I am no expert, i just know that regular potting soil holds to much water. That is how you will get root rot.

    Juniper Bonsai

I think you use regular potting soil mixed with pebbles (there’s a specific kind but the name escapes me). The ratio is something like 2/3 soil 1/3 pebbles.

At least, I think that’s it.

Bon + sai means tree + pot, the pots are from heavy, hq material. The hole in the pot (often there are more big holes and several small ones) allows the tree drop water down (in a case of accident) besides this many bonsais can be watered from bottom. (Sometimes you are unable to water them twice a day…)

Would it not be easier to just use a large piece of screen cut to fit the bottom of the pot instead of using two screens and all that wire?

what is unique about a bonsai pot and not a regular pot and why does it have holes in it. Also why is ‘bonsai soil!’ needed? Whats wrong with natural ground soil?!
